The Band

The Centennial Community Band (CCB) is a non-profit, charitable organization of musicians from the northern Twin Cities communities, centered around the Centennial community. It was organized in January of 2003 to provide opportunity for adults to share their talents and further develop their musicianship with others in ensemble performance.

The Community

The Centennial community includes the cities of Blaine, Centerville, Circle Pines, Lexington and Lino Lakes. The school district which serves this community is ISD 12. Please note that membership is not limited to residents of the Centennial community!

Mission

The purpose of the band is:

  1. To contribute positively to the musical environment of the area it serves, whether local, state, national, or international
  2. To reaffirm the community band position in American music
  3. To support all fine arts projects that are beneficial to the cultural growth of the community and individual participants

The Conductor

Jim Baxter is the second conductor of the CCB. Mr. Baxter received his Bachelor's of Music Education degree from the University of Minnesota where he received the Red McLeod, Marian Groth, and Tau Beta Sigma Scholarships. As a member of the U of M Marching Band he was named the 2003 Musician of the Year and 2005 Veteran of the Year.

Mr. Baxter is currently the Director of Bands at Princeton High School in Princeton, MN where he directs 3 Concert Bands, 2 Jazz Bands, Pep Band, Chamber Ensembles and the Pit Orchestra. He is also an executive board member of the University of Minnesota Band Alumni Society, whom he conducts during their summer concert series.

He is an active member of multiple professional organizations including Minnesota Band Directors Association (MBDA), Minnesota Music Educators Association (MMEA), Music Educators National Conference (MENC) and the University of Minnesota Band Alumni Society (UMBAS).

Previous Conductors

Karen Eitland was the first conductor of the CCB. She conducted from 2003 through 2008.

The Band Board

The CCB Board of Directors is made up of members of the band and other members of the community. Elections are held annually in October. Board members serve two years on a rotating basis.
